1. Draw an imaginary
"line in the sand" - (actually, you can use a piece of masking
tape).
2. Have club members
line up in a single file directly over the line.
3. You can either
distribute the situation to the members (a different situation to each
member) or read a situation to each member.
4. Ask them to step
to the RIGHT of the line if they think they would do the action or if
they think the action is "right." Ask them to step to the
LEFT of the line if they think they would NOT do the action or if they
think the action in the situation is wrong.
5. Each member should
step to the RIGHT or LEFT without looking behind them for help from
other members. There may be situations where "ON THE LINE"
is their response.
6. After each member
has made their decision, ask them to ask themselves the following set
of questions:
A. What people
would be affected by my decisions? Who would be helped? Who would
be hurt?
B. Am I abiding
by the six pillars? Even if I have to give up other things I want?
(Remind them that ethics isn't for wimps.)
C. If I cannot
find a way to live up to one of the six pillar principles without
violating another pillar principle, am I making the choice that I
think will be best for society in the long run?
D. How would I
feel if my actions were publicized on the six o'clock news? or if
my school principal, grandfather, or preacher saw me doing this?
