Facts and Figures

Current statistics and survey data on the experience of Americans are being gathered to support the eight Texans Building Character models: school, 4-H and Youth Development, youth at risk, workforce, community, sports, livestock and megacommunity.

Survey: The 2000-2001 State of Our Nation's Youth survey is sponsored on a yearly basis by the Horatio Alger Association. The survey information included on this page is drawn from a final sample of 1200 youth ages 14-18 whose family type, household size, household income, and region of the country are representative of the U. S. population. The source for this information can be found at www.horatioalger.com

Followup survey: Following the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the Horatio Alger Association surveyed 308 youth from their panel of 1200 to learn how those youth had reacted to their attacks and what behaviors they had changed.

Users of this information are asked to acknowledge the source of data which has been listed at the end of each statistic by including that credit line whenever this information is used in a presentation, on a web site, or in printed materials. Thank you for protecting their information.
