Grandparents Raising Grandkids

About Us

The Texas Kincare Taskforce was established in 2002 with support from the Brookdale Foundation. The Taskforce focuses on the concerns of kincare families. Kincare families are families in which grandparents, aunts, uncles or other adult kin are raising relatives who are not yet of adult age. The Texas Kincare Taskforce is comprised of interested public and private (non-profit) agencies and organizations as well as individuals. Each member has a deep interest in the success of the children, who for a greater or lesser period of time, are in kincare.

The Texas Kincare Taskforce addresses matters affecting kincare families across the kincare spectrum. That specturm includes families in which there is not court order of custody or guardianship (informal kincare) across to families in which the relative kin has qualified for foster care payments (formal kincare).

Meetings of the Texas Kincare Taskforce occur at least once per quarter. In June 2003, the Taskforce conducted the first-ever statewide kincare symposium in Texas. The Texas Kincare Taskforce publishes information on legal rights and responsibilities of kincare families, public benefits for kincare families and other pertinent topics.
