Josefa Peña moved to College Station, Texas, in 2003 from her hometown of Fort Worth, Texas. She acquired a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from the School of Rural Public Health at Texas A&M University. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Tarleton State University, Stephenville, Texas.
Josefa enjoys spending time with her husband, Ricardo, and their two dogs, Maggie (Chihuahua mix) and Honey (chocolate Labrador). She loves singing in the choir at her church, where she is an active member. Reading and crocheting are Josefa’s old loves that she is working back into her life.
Josefa enjoys working for AgriLife Extension and advancing the communities in Texas. She began her career with Extension as an Extension Assistant in Emergency Preparedness. She currently is a Health Specialist, promoting various health issues and reinforcing Texans’ lives with research-based knowledge. Her specialties include infectious disease control and prevention, breast and cervical cancer education, health disparities, and Hispanic/Latino populations.
