Cheryl Brewer serves as project manager for the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas grant, Preventing Tobacco Use in Rural Communities. In the past four years, work on the grant has expanded from the original three counties to nine counties at the present time. These counties are all located in the North Region and include: Armstrong, Swisher, Deaf Smith, Randall, Parmer, Oldham, Donley, Moore, and Motley. The project was honored in 2007 with Extension’s Superior Service Team Award. Cheryl is headquartered at the Texas AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Amarillo.
In 2003, Cheryl retired from the Texas AgriLife Extension Service after serving 28 years as county Extension agent – Family and Consumer Sciences in Potter, Van Zandt, Ochiltree, and Hartley Counties. As a county Extension agent, Cheryl worked in many areas of Family Development and Resource Management. Following retirement, she was recognized with the title of County Extension Agent Emeritus.
Cheryl is originally from Amarillo. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics Education from Texas Tech University and her Master’s degree in Agriculture Education from Texas A&M University. She has been a past recipient of Extension’s Superior Service Award. She has also been recognized by the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and Epsilon Sigma Phi.
